What is HP Sahara Yojana?
Run by the Health & Family Welfare Department of Himachal Pradesh, the Sahara Yojana is a relief measure for families who are slowly drained by the cost of a long-term illness. A patient who has been diagnosed at a recognised HP government or district hospital with one of the covered chronic conditions — cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson's, muscular dystrophy, hemophilia, thalassemia or kidney failure — and who belongs to a BPL or low-income household receives a fixed ₹3,000 every month. The money is meant to ease the recurring burden of medicines, follow-up treatment and caregiving rather than reimburse a one-time hospital bill. Once an application is sanctioned, the ₹3,000 is paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) straight into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account, so the amount reaches the household without any middleman.

A quick way to gauge your eligibility — find the profile nearest to yours:
Permanent HP resident, age 52, diagnosed with kidney failure at a district government hospital, family income about ₹2.4 lakh a year, holds a BPL ration card
Eligible — The illness is on the covered list, treatment is at a recognised HP government hospital and income is well below ₹4 lakh — a clear fit for the ₹3,000 monthly support.
HP resident, age 45, undergoing cancer treatment, but family income is around ₹5.2 lakh a year
Not eligible — Annual family income is above the ₹4 lakh ceiling, so the household does not qualify even though the disease is covered.
HP domicile thalassemia patient with a valid CMO disease certificate, income certificate showing ₹1.8 lakh, treated at a recognised HP government facility
Eligible — All three conditions — covered disease, income below ₹4 lakh and treatment at a government hospital — are satisfied.
Every case differs — confirm your eligibility on the official portal first.
Common Mistakes — Why HP Sahara Yojana Applications Get Rejected
- ✗Submitting a disease certificate from a private clinic instead of the required government hospital CMO/Specialist certificate.
- ✗Quoting a family income above ₹4 lakh, or attaching an income certificate that has expired or does not match ration-card details.
- ✗Giving a bank account that is not linked to Aadhaar, which stalls the monthly DBT credit.
- ✗Applying on an unrelated portal rather than sahara.himachal.gov.in or the district welfare office, leading to the file never being registered.
Insider Tips for HP Sahara Yojana
- →Get the disease certificate signed by the government hospital CMO or treating specialist before you start the application, as this is the document most often missing.
- →Keep a fresh income/BPL certificate ready and make sure the name spelling matches your Aadhaar and ration card.
- →Link your bank account to Aadhaar early so the first ₹3,000 transfer is not held back.
- →After sanction, track the monthly DBT credit in your passbook and report any gap promptly to the district welfare office.
