Editorial Process & Methodology
Last updated: 29 May 2026
Why this matters
Every scheme page on Schemes In India follows a documented 6-step editorial process. We believe Indian citizens deserve scheme information that is accurate, current, and verifiable against official government sources — not auto-generated or rehashed from other websites. This page explains exactly how we research, write, fact-check, and maintain every page on this site.
Our 6-Step Editorial Process
1. Scheme Discovery & Selection
We monitor the following official sources daily to discover new schemes, amendments, and announcements:
- PIB (Press Information Bureau): pib.gov.in — official press releases from every central ministry
- MyGov.in: Citizen engagement platform announcing new schemes
- Gazette of India: egazette.nic.in for official notifications
- State CM Office Twitter accounts: for state scheme announcements
- Niti Aayog publications: for centrally-sponsored scheme updates
- State e-governance portals: for state-specific scheme launches
Schemes are selected for coverage based on: (a) relevance to a sizeable citizen group, (b) availability of official source documents, (c) ability for citizens to actually apply or benefit, and (d) absence of comprehensive coverage elsewhere in citizen-friendly language.
2. Primary Source Research
For every scheme, we collect information from at least 3 primary sources before writing:
- The official scheme portal (e.g., pmkisan.gov.in for PM Kisan)
- The relevant ministry's website (e.g., Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare)
- The scheme's operational guidelines PDF (usually available on the ministry website)
- Press releases announcing the scheme launch or amendments
- State implementation guidelines for centrally-sponsored schemes
We do NOT rely on other scheme-aggregator websites, news articles, or social media as primary sources. Secondary sources are only used to find leads to primary sources.
3. Writing & Translation
Every scheme page is written by a human team member following a standard template: eligibility, required documents, step-by-step application process, FAQs, benefit amount, last-verified date, and official apply link. Content is written first in English, then:
- Translated into Hindi by team members fluent in Hindi (we do not rely on machine translation for primary content)
- For state-specific schemes, regional language content (Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Konkani, Nepali, Meitei, Mizo) is added by community contributors with native fluency
- Technical or legal jargon is explained in plain language for first-generation internet users
- Examples and analogies are added wherever helpful for comprehension
4. Fact-Checking & Peer Review
Before publication, every scheme page goes through:
- Source citation review: Every claim about eligibility, benefit, or process must be traceable to an official document or portal
- Number verification: Benefit amounts, age limits, income thresholds, and dates are cross-checked against the official scheme notification
- Link verification: All official URLs are tested to confirm they resolve to the correct government domain
- Peer review: A second team member reviews the page for accuracy, clarity, and completeness before publication
5. Publication & Indexing
Once approved, the page is published with:
- A visible "Last Updated" timestamp at the top
- Schema.org structured data (GovernmentService, FAQ, BreadcrumbList) for search engines
- Inclusion in the appropriate state and category landing pages
- Cross-linking to 5-10 related schemes
- Automatic submission to Google Search Console and Bing IndexNow
6. Continuous Verification & Updates
Scheme pages are not "publish once and forget." We re-verify every page on the following schedule:
- Flagship schemes (PM Kisan, Ayushman Bharat, PMAY, etc.): every 30 days
- State CM schemes (Ladki Bahin, Gruha Lakshmi, etc.): every 30-45 days
- Standard schemes: every 60-90 days
- Triggered re-verification: within 24-48 hours of receiving a reader correction or official announcement
The "Last Updated" date on every page reflects the most recent verification — not just when the page was first published.
Correction Policy
We are humans and we make mistakes. If you find any incorrect information on Schemes In India, please email us at contact@schemesinindia.in with:
- The URL of the page
- The specific information that is incorrect or outdated
- The correct information, with a link to the official source if possible
We verify reader-reported errors within 24 hours and update the affected page within 48 hours. Significant corrections are noted with a "Correction:" note at the top of the page.
Editorial Independence
Schemes In India is editorially independent of all governments, political parties, advertisers, sponsors, and affiliate partners. Specifically:
- We do not accept payment for biased or promotional coverage of any scheme or political party
- We do not remove or hide content based on advertiser preferences
- Sponsored content, if any, is clearly labelled as "Sponsored" and visually distinguished from editorial content
- Affiliate links (e.g., home loan partners on housing scheme pages) are disclosed on our Disclaimer page
- Our coverage does not reflect endorsement of any government, political party, or scheme
What We Will Never Publish
To maintain trust with citizens, we have a firm policy against publishing:
- Schemes that do not exist or are rumour-based
- "Free money" schemes claiming guaranteed cash transfers without official notification
- WhatsApp-forwarded scheme rumours without official verification
- Schemes from sources that ask citizens to pay processing fees or share Aadhaar/bank details with intermediaries
- Political-party-specific schemes without distinguishing from government schemes
- Auto-translated content without human review
Conflicts of Interest
We disclose the following potential conflicts of interest:
- Display advertising: We display Google AdSense and similar advertising networks. Ad placement and content are managed by Google and do not influence our editorial coverage.
- Affiliate partnerships: Housing scheme pages may include links to home-loan providers (SBI, HDFC, ICICI, etc.) for citizen convenience. At present we do not earn commission from these links. If we ever partner for affiliate revenue, links will be marked "Sponsored".
- Our team has no affiliation with: any government department, ministry, scheme implementing agency, political party, or scheme beneficiary identification programme.

- Ministry-issued operational guidelines (PDF circulars)
- State Gazette notifications

Sources We Do NOT Treat as Authoritative
