What is Bina Mulya Samajik Suraksha WB?
Bina Mulya Samajik Suraksha Yojana (BMSSY) is West Bengal's flagship social security insurance scheme launched by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Under this scheme, unorganised sector workers — including agricultural labourers, construction workers, bidi workers, beedi rollers, transport workers, and domestic workers — receive free group insurance covering natural death (₹2 lakh), accidental death (₹5 lakh), permanent disability (₹5 lakh), and partial disability (₹2.5 lakh). The annual premium of ₹500 per member is paid entirely by the State Government — hence 'Bina Mulya' (without cost). Over 1.29 crore workers enrolled as of 2025.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Natural death ₹2 lakh | Accidental death ₹5 lakh | Permanent disability ₹5 lakh | Partial disability ₹2.5 lakh — completely free for workers. The scheme was launched in 2017 and is implemented by the Government of West Bengal.
