What is WB Fishermen Welfare Scheme?
West Bengal Fisheries Department provides welfare schemes for registered marine and inland fishermen. Under the West Bengal Fishermen Welfare and Development scheme: ₹5 lakh group accidental insurance at sea, ₹1 lakh partial disability, subsistence allowance ₹1,500/month during lean fishing months (June-July ban period), diesel subsidy 50 paise/litre for mechanised boats, ice and cold storage subsidy, and one-time assistance for boat engine repair ₹15,000. Additionally, the central PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana) provides additional support to WB fishermen — 60% government subsidy on boats, nets, and cold storage for SC/ST/women fishers.
