What is TN Widow Pension?
Widows in Tamil Nadu who are left without adequate support can claim a monthly pension of ₹1,000-1,300 through a scheme run by the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, funded jointly by the state government and the central IGNWPS (Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme). Tamil Nadu's own portion covers destitute widows of any age from 18 upward, while the central IGNWPS piece specifically applies to widows between 40 and 79 whose family income falls below the BPL line. Once a beneficiary turns 80, the payout steps up to ₹1,500/month. Around 14 lakh widows across the state are currently on this pension, and continuing to receive it requires staying unmarried — applications and renewals go through the Taluk Social Welfare Office or an e-Sevai centre, with payments reaching an Aadhaar-linked bank account.

தமிழ்நாடு விதவை ஓய்வூதியத் திட்டம் ஆதரவற்ற விதவைகளுக்கு மாத ஓய்வூதியம் வழங்குகிறது. 80 வயதுக்கு கீழே உள்ள விதவைகளுக்கு ₹1,000/மாதம்; 80 வயதுக்கு மேற்பட்ட விதவைகளுக்கு ₹1,500/மாதம் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. Who is Eligible for TN Widow Pension?
