What is TN CM Sports Development Scheme?
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Sports Development Scheme and Sports Achievement Awards support athletes, sports persons, and youth engaged in sporting activities across Tamil Nadu. Key components: (1) CM's Sporting Achievement Award — ₹10,000-₹30 lakh cash award for international medalists (Olympic bronze ₹1 crore, silver ₹2 crore, gold ₹3 crore); (2) Sports Scholarship for youth — ₹500-₹2,000/month for top-ranked athletes in recognized sports; (3) Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority (SDAT) free coaching academies in all districts; (4) Sports equipment subsidy for schools and colleges; (5) Priority government jobs for sports persons under sports quota (2% in government posts). Tamil Nadu has produced P V Sindhu-equivalent athletes across Kabaddi, Boxing, Chess (Magnus Carlsen opponents).
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Olympic gold ₹3Cr cash + sports scholarship ₹2K/month + free coaching + 2% sports quota TN govt jobs. The scheme was launched in 2006 and is implemented by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
