What is TN Free Power for Farmers?
Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister's Free Electricity Scheme for Farmers provides free electricity (up to 9 hours daily during off-peak hours) for all registered agricultural pumpsets in Tamil Nadu. All farmers with agricultural service connections (pumpsets up to 10HP) get completely free power supply without any monthly bill. Scheme introduced in 1989, expanded and continued through successive governments. Currently covers 22 lakh+ agricultural pumpset connections in Tamil Nadu. Domestic households: free units up to 100 units/month (separate scheme). The scheme costs Tamil Nadu government ₹12,000+ crore annually. Apply for new agricultural pumpset connection at TANGEDCO offices or online at tneb.in.
