Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister's Free Electricity Scheme for Farmers provides free electricity (up to 9 hours daily during off-peak hours) for all registered agricultural pumpsets in Tamil Nadu. All farmers with agricultural service connections (pumpsets up to 10HP) get completely free power supply without any monthly bill. Scheme introduced in 1989, expanded and continued through successive governments. Currently covers 22 lakh+ agricultural pumpset connections in Tamil Nadu.
