What is TN Magalir Thittam SHG?
Magalir Thittam is Tamil Nadu's flagship women Self-Help Group (SHG) programme launched in 1997 under the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women (TNCDW). It has grown to become one of India's largest SHG networks with over 4.5 lakh SHGs covering 60 lakh women. Benefits: Revolving Fund (RF) of ₹10,000-15,000 per SHG for initial lending; Community Investment Fund (CIF) for group microenterprise; Bank linkage loans at 3% interest (subsidised by state); NABARD credit linkage. Women SHG members can access loans for business (₹50,000-3 lakh per member), education, housing, emergencies. Special schemes under Magalir Thittam: Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (₹1,000/month — separate scheme) is channelled through SHGs. SHG members also get priority in government scheme registration, livelihood training, and market access through SHG federations.
