What is Pashu Bhagya?

Pashu Bhagya Yojana is the Karnataka government's livestock development scheme implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services. The scheme provides back-ended capital subsidy and 0% interest short-term loans to small and marginal farmers for setting up cattle/sheep/goat/pig/poultry units. Subsidy: 50% for SC/ST farmers (revised from 33%), and 25% for other small/marginal farmers — on commercial bank loans up to ₹1.20 lakh. Additionally, short-term loans up to ₹50,000 at 0% interest are provided through Co-operative Banks for cattle feed and maintenance. The scheme aims to make farmers' income drought-proof through livestock diversification. Pashu Bhagya is implemented in convergence with NABARD's Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) and central PM-KISAN benefits. Around 2 lakh+ Karnataka farmers have benefited since launch.
