What is PPF Public Provident Fund?
Public Provident Fund (PPF) is India's most popular long-term savings scheme backed by the Government of India with guaranteed returns. Invest ₹500 to ₹1.5 lakh per year and earn 7.1% interest (compounded annually) — completely tax-free under Section 80C and Section 10. Maturity period is 15 years (extendable). Account can be opened at any post office or nationalised bank.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive 7.1% guaranteed tax-free returns + ₹1.5 lakh annual tax deduction (80C) + loan facility from year 3. The scheme was launched in 1968 and is implemented by the Government of India.

Who is Eligible for PPF Public Provident Fund?
- ✓Any Indian citizen (resident) — individuals only, not HUF or NRI
- ✓Only ONE PPF account per person (minor child can have separate account operated by parent)
- ✓NRIs are not allowed to open new PPF accounts (existing ones can continue till maturity)
- ✓No minimum age — parents can open for minor children
