🔗Apply on eshram.gov.inReal-Life Examples — Are You Eligible for E-Shram Card?
Find the profile closest to your situation to quickly check whether you qualify:
Suresh, 34, a daily-wage construction worker in Lucknow with an Aadhaar card linked to his mobile and a bank account, not registered with EPFO or ESIC.
Eligible — He is an unorganized sector worker aged 16-59, has Aadhaar with mobile linked, and is not covered under EPFO/ESIC — meets all four eligibility criteria.
Lata, 42, a domestic worker in Pune whose Aadhaar is not linked to her mobile number, with a savings account.
Not eligible — Although she qualifies by occupation and age, her Aadhaar mobile linking is mandatory for OTP verification on eshram.gov.in — she must update mobile linking at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra first.
Ramesh, 28, a street vendor in Indore with Aadhaar linked to mobile, holding a UAN through his earlier factory job where EPFO was deducted.
Not eligible — He is already covered under EPFO, and the scheme explicitly excludes workers covered by ESIC or EPFO from E-Shram registration.
Anita, 19, a self-employed tailor working from home in Bhopal with Aadhaar-mobile linking and a Jan Dhan account.
Eligible — She falls in the 16-59 age band, is an unorganized worker not covered by EPFO/ESIC, and has the required Aadhaar-mobile linkage and bank details.
Karthik, 62, a retired farm labourer in a village near Madurai who wants insurance cover under E-Shram.
Not eligible — He is above the 59-year upper age limit specified in the E-Shram eligibility criteria, so he cannot enrol even though his occupation qualifies.
Meena, 25, a migrant agricultural labourer with Aadhaar-mobile linkage and a bank account in her name, not enrolled in any social security scheme.
Eligible — She meets all four eligibility points — unorganized worker, 16-59 age band, no EPFO/ESIC coverage, and active Aadhaar with mobile linked.
Examples are illustrative — always confirm against the official eligibility criteria before applying.
Common Mistakes — Why E-Shram Card Applications Get Rejected
- ✗Paying more than the ₹20 nominal CSC service fee — some operators wrongly demand higher amounts even though registration on eshram.gov.in is completely free.
- ✗Trying to register without linking the mobile number to Aadhaar — the eshram.gov.in OTP verification fails and the application cannot be submitted.
- ✗Registering on E-Shram while already contributing to EPFO or ESIC, which makes the card invalid since the scheme explicitly excludes workers covered under these schemes.
- ✗Believing viral WhatsApp messages about a ₹1,000 monthly payment from E-Shram — no such cash payment scheme exists; the actual benefit is ₹2 lakh accident insurance plus priority in 12 welfare schemes.
- ✗Entering wrong bank account number or IFSC at registration, which blocks the worker from receiving benefits routed through PM Suraksha Bima Yojana or linked schemes like PM Awas and PM Ujjwala.
- ✗Skipping mobile number or bank account updates after changing phone/bank — the card status can turn inactive and benefit routing breaks under the linked priority schemes.
Insider Tips for E-Shram Card
- →Register directly at eshram.gov.in for free instead of going to a CSC — the portal generates the 12-digit UAN card instantly after Aadhaar OTP verification, and you avoid the ₹20 CSC operator fee.
- →Download your UAN card immediately from the UMANG app after registering — it works as a backup if eshram.gov.in is slow during peak hours and is accepted by most welfare scheme verifiers.
- →Use your E-Shram registration as a fast-track for PM Awas Yojana, PM Ujjwala, Ayushman Bharat and PM-SYM applications — cardholders are given priority in these 12 linked schemes, so apply soon after enrolling.
- →Keep your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and bank account details current on eshram.gov.in — the ₹2 lakh PM Suraksha Bima Yojana accident insurance claim is paid only to the bank account on record at the time of the incident.
- →Check your card's active/inactive status periodically by logging in with mobile number and OTP — if it shows inactive, update occupation and bank details to keep priority access to the 12 welfare schemes alive.
