What is Mizoram Handloom and Craft Development?
Mizoram Handloom and Craft Development Scheme supports weavers of the traditional Puan textile — Mizoram's iconic handloom fabric woven by Mizo women. The scheme provides free loom equipment, 50% subsidy on yarn, market linkage through MHHDC (Mizoram Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation) emporiums in Aizawl and outside Mizoram, and participation in Northeast craft fairs and national handloom expos. Weavers registered under the scheme receive orders from government emporiums and institutional buyers. The scheme preserves Mizo cultural identity through textile and also supports bamboo and cane craft artisans across the state.
