What is Mizoram Sericulture Mission Silk Farming?

Mizoram Sericulture Mission promotes Eri silk (Endi) farming — Mizoram's traditional sericulture practice — among ILP holder tribal farming families. The mission provides free Eri silkworm seed (eggs), mulberry/castor host plant seedlings, 50% subsidy on rearing equipment, and training in cocoon and yarn production. Woven Eri silk fabric (Puan-Eri) is an emerging premium product in the handloom market. The Sericulture & Weaving Department, Government of Mizoram, implements the scheme under Ministry of Textiles (Central Silk Board) with MSDP (Multi Sectoral Development Programme) funding in minority-concentrated districts. Women weavers who produce Eri silk are linked to MHHDC for marketing. Silk farming income is estimated at ₹20,000–₹40,000/year per household from 0.5 acre Eri rearing unit.

Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Free Eri silkworm seed + host plant seedlings + 50% rearing equipment subsidy + MHHDC market linkage for ILP holder tribal farmers — ₹20,000–₹40,000/year income potential. The scheme was launched in 2013 and is implemented by the Government of Mizoram.
