What is Mizoram National Bamboo Mission?
Mizoram participates in the National Bamboo Mission (NBM) with state-specific support for bamboo plantation, processing, and value addition. Mizoram farmers growing bamboo receive ₹10,000 per hectare for plantation, free bamboo saplings, training in bamboo treatment and product making, and linkage to bamboo handicraft markets. Mizoram is one of India's richest bamboo states (Melocanna baccifera — Mautak species). The mission promotes bamboo-based livelihoods to replace shifting cultivation and reduce forest dependency.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive ₹10,000/hectare bamboo plantation support + free saplings + training + market linkage for Mizoram farmers. The scheme was launched in 2018 and is implemented by the Government of Mizoram.
