What is MahaDBT Post-Matric ST?

Unlike its SC counterpart, the ST variant of Maharashtra's post-matric scholarship is administered by the Tribal Development Department (TDD) — a separate ministry with its own set of competent authorities for the tribal certificate. About 5 lakh Scheduled Tribe students receive support each year, weighted heavily toward the eastern districts of Maharashtra where the ST population is concentrated: Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Palghar, Nashik, and parts of Amravati. The tribal certificate must be issued by the Tribal Welfare Officer (not the Tehsildar who issues SC certificates), and Maharashtra also recognises specific Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) — Katkari, Kolam, Madia Gond — whose applications receive priority weighting. Maintenance allowance runs ₹380 to ₹1,200 per month, with an additional Book Allowance and Study Tour Allowance built into the ST-specific payout structure that the SC variant does not carry.
