What is Swadhar Yojana?
Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Swadhar Yojana is a scholarship-cum-maintenance scheme of the Maharashtra government's Social Justice & Special Assistance Department for Scheduled Caste and Neo-Buddhist students who qualify for a government hostel but cannot get a seat. Instead of a hostel place, the student receives an annual cash grant to cover boarding, lodging, meals, and other educational expenses while studying away from home. The amount depends on the place of study: ₹60,000 in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Navi Mumbai; ₹51,000 in other divisional cities; ₹43,000 in other districts; and ₹38,000 at the taluka level. Applicants need at least 50% marks in the last exam and family income below ₹2.50 lakh; the grant is paid by DBT into the student's Aadhaar-linked bank account.
