What is Kerala Aashraya Housing Scheme?
Aashraya (Shelter) is Kerala's Urban Basic Services scheme providing free houses with land to landless urban poor families who are homeless or living in dilapidated structures. Under Aashraya, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs — Municipalities, Municipal Corporations) construct 250-300 sq ft houses with basic amenities (toilet, water, electricity) on government-owned land or land provided by the beneficiary, at zero cost to the family. Priority given to widows, senior citizens, differently-abled, SC/ST, fishermen. Complementary to rural LIFE Mission. Apply through local Municipality / Municipal Corporation.
