What is Kerala Aaharam Free Meal Scheme?
Kerala's Aaharam (Food) scheme, implemented by Local Self Government (LSG) bodies and Kudumbashree, provides free cooked meals twice a day to homeless persons, destitute individuals, migrant workers without shelter, and persons with mental illness living on streets. Kerala Community Kitchens set up by Gram Panchayats and Municipalities provide nutritious meals at no cost. Also covers: free meal for patients' attendants at government hospitals (hospital canteen subsidy), free noon meals for Anganwadi children, free mid-day meals for all government school students. As part of Hunger-Free Kerala initiative, no person in Kerala should sleep hungry. Over 10 lakh meals served monthly across Kerala.
