What is JEEViKA Bihar SHG?
JEEViKA is run by the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS) under the state's Rural Development Department, and is the largest women-led poverty-reduction programme in Bihar. Field staff and Community Mobilizers organise rural poor women into Self Help Groups (SHGs) of 10–15 members who meet weekly, save small amounts, and lend to one another. Each group receives a ₹15,000 revolving fund, and after about six months of regular savings and book-keeping it qualifies for bank credit linkage of up to ₹6 lakh. Members also get skill training and help with dairy, poultry, tailoring and other livelihoods. Loans and benefits are routed to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, and priority is given to Mahadalit, SC, ST, minority and migrant-worker families.
