What is Meghalaya Bamboo & MFP Tribal Scheme?

Meghalaya Bamboo and Minor Forest Produce (MFP) Scheme provides ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 financial support to tribal communities — primarily Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo — engaged in collecting, processing, and value-adding minor forest produce including bamboo, cane/rattan, broom grass (Thysanolaena), honey, lac, medicinal plants, and aromatic herbs. The scheme is implemented through the Forest Department in partnership with MILMa (Meghalaya Integrated Livelihood Mission) and TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation). Processing units, collection centres, and market linkage support are also provided to maximize income for tribal forest-dependent families.

Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive ₹5,000–₹15,000 financial support for tribal communities collecting and processing bamboo and minor forest produce in Meghalaya. The scheme was launched in 2017 and is implemented by the Government of Meghalaya.

Tribal families collecting bamboo (u dieng synteng), cane/rattan, broom grass (u dieng sla), honey, lac, medicinal herbs, and other forest produce receive ₹5,000–₹15,000 support for tools, processing equipment, and market linkage. Women collectors and SHG groups get priority support.
