What is Meghalaya CM Cottage Industry Scheme?
The Meghalaya Chief Minister's Cottage Industry Scheme provides financial assistance of ₹25,000 to ₹1.5 lakh to rural tribal artisans and craftspeople in Meghalaya for setting up or upgrading cottage industry units in traditional and modern craft sectors. The scheme targets Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo tribal artisans engaged in traditional weaving, cane and bamboo work, pottery, wood carving, traditional jewelry making, and modern cottage industries including food processing, soap making, incense sticks, and candle making. Implemented by the Industries & Commerce Department in collaboration with the District Industries Centres (DICs), the scheme provides seed funding, raw material support, and market linkage through government emporiums and craft fairs.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive ₹25,000–₹1.5 lakh seed funding for rural Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo tribal cottage industry artisans + raw material support + market linkage. The scheme was launched in 2015 and is implemented by the Government of Meghalaya.
