What is Punjab Sports Merit Award?
Punjab Sports Merit Awards (CM Sports Awards) recognize and reward athletes from Punjab who achieve distinction at state, national, and international levels. Cash prizes range from ₹10,000 for state-level winners to ₹3 lakh for international (Olympic/Asian/Commonwealth) medalists. The scheme is implemented by the Punjab Sports Department and aims to encourage youth sports culture in Punjab's 22 districts. Awards are presented by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at annual state sports felicitation ceremonies. Disciplines include kabaddi, wrestling, hockey, athletics, shooting, boxing, and all Olympic/recognized sports.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Cash awards ₹10,000 (state level) to ₹3 lakh (international medals); CM Sports Award; annual felicitation by Punjab Sports Department. The scheme was launched in 2000 and is implemented by the Government of Punjab.
