What is Sikkim Tribal Development Welfare?
Sikkim Tribal Development Welfare Fund provides dedicated infrastructure and livelihood support for Bhutia, Lepcha, and Limboo-Tamang communities — Sikkim's three constitutionally recognized Scheduled Tribe groups. The fund supports community halls, traditional craft centres (Lepcha bamboo weaving, Bhutia carpet weaving), cultural preservation, access roads, water supply in tribal villages, and livelihood training for tribal youth. Special reservation and scholarship support for tribal students. The scheme is implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department, Sikkim, under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs centrally and state budget.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Tribal area development fund — infrastructure, livelihood, craft centres, cultural preservation for Bhutia, Lepcha, Limboo-Tamang communities. The scheme was launched in 2005 and is implemented by the Government of Sikkim.
