What is Sikkim Horticulture Cardamom Support?
Sikkim Horticulture Department provides 50% subsidy on cultivation of cardamom (choti elaichi), large cardamom (badi elaichi), ginger, and turmeric — Sikkim's key cash crops. Support includes cost of planting material, drip irrigation equipment, post-harvest infrastructure (curing chambers for large cardamom), organic certification support, and market linkage. Sikkim produces 50%+ of India's large cardamom (badi elaichi) and is a major exporter to Southeast Asia and Middle East. All support is linked to Sikkim's 100% organic farming mandate.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive 50% subsidy on cardamom/ginger/large cardamom cultivation + organic certification support + market linkage for Sikkim farmers. The scheme was launched in 2014 and is implemented by the Government of Sikkim.
