What is Sikkim LPG Ujjwala State Scheme?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in Sikkim provides free LPG connections to BPL women, with Sikkim state government adding additional support in the form of 3 free initial refills and state subsidy on subsequent cylinders for BPL families. The scheme reduces dependence on traditional biomass fuel — particularly important in Sikkim's high-altitude areas where fuelwood collection is dangerous and ecologically damaging. Connections are provided through all three major oil companies (HPCL, BPCL, IOCL) with LPG distributors across all four districts.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Free LPG connection (PMUY) + 3 free refills + state subsidy for BPL women in Sikkim. The scheme was launched in 2016 and is implemented by the Government of Sikkim.
