What is KCR Kit Telangana?
KCR Kit (now referred to as 'Rajanna Kit' under the current government) is a maternal and child health scheme of the Telangana Department of Health, Medical & Family Welfare. It provides ₹12,000 cash assistance for a baby boy or ₹13,000 for a baby girl, paid in instalments, along with a kit of 16 items such as baby clothes, a blanket, mosquito net, soap, baby oil and feeding accessories, to mothers who deliver at government hospitals. The extra amount for girl children is meant to encourage families to welcome daughters. The cash is transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer to the mother's Aadhaar-linked bank account, while the kit is handed over at the hospital. By rewarding institutional deliveries, the scheme aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality, and it has covered over 30 lakh deliveries since launch.
