What is Gruha Jyothi Scheme Telangana?
Gruha Jyothi is Telangana Government's flagship free electricity scheme launched by CM Revanth Reddy in August 2023, providing 200 units of free electricity per month to every domestic household in Telangana. The scheme is one of the five guarantees ('Pancha Guarantees') promised by the Congress party before the 2023 Telangana elections. Over 1.49 crore domestic electricity consumers in Telangana — approximately 5.11 crore households — benefit from this scheme. Consumers whose monthly usage is 200 units or less pay zero electricity bill. Those consuming above 200 units pay only for the excess units beyond 200. The scheme costs the state approximately ₹6,200 crore annually and is funded from the state budget.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive 200 units free electricity per month — ZERO electricity bill for 200-unit consumers — 1.49 crore Telangana households. The scheme was launched in 2023 and is implemented by the Government of Telangana.
