What is Nagaland Tribal Heritage Culture Scheme?
The Nagaland Tribal Heritage and Cultural Preservation Fund supports all 17 major Naga tribes — Angami, Ao, Sumi, Lotha, Konyak, Chakhesang, Zeliang, Pochuri, Yimchunger, Sangtam, Khiamniungan, Chang, Phom, Rengma, Mao, Maram, and Tikhir — in preserving their distinct cultural identities. The scheme provides grants for participation in the Hornbill Festival (Nagaland's premier cultural showcase), traditional Naga weaving (each tribe has distinct shawl patterns), tribal governance (Gaon Bura / Village Council system), and intangible heritage like oral traditions, folk songs, and tribal dances. Cultural affairs and tribal district councils jointly implement the fund.
