What is Nagaland Handloom Handicraft Scheme?
The Nagaland Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation (NHHDC) Scheme supports traditional Naga weavers, artisans, and craftspeople with financial assistance of ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 for tool upgrades, design development, raw material procurement, and market linkage. Nagaland is renowned for its distinctive tribal textile weaving traditions — each tribe has unique weave patterns including Angami shawls, Ao naga weave, Lotha mekhela, Sumi textiles, and Konyak warrior shawls. NHHDC provides subsidized looms, raw material (natural dyes, silk, cotton), design training, and marketing support through the Nagaland government emporiums and national handicraft fairs. GI-tagged Naga handicrafts receive priority support.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive ₹15,000–₹50,000 support for Naga tribal weavers and artisans — subsidized looms, raw material, design training, and market linkage through NHHDC. The scheme was launched in 2010 and is implemented by the Government of Nagaland.
NHHDC Scheme supports Naga tribal weavers (Angami, Ao, Lotha, Sumi, Konyak, Chakhesang, Zeliang, Rengma, and other tribes) and artisans with ₹15,000–₹50,000 in tool subsidies, raw material support, design training, and market linkage. Each Naga tribe has unique weave patterns recognized nationally and internationally — Angami shawls, Ao mekhela weaves, Lotha textiles, and Konyak warrior motifs. GI-tagged Nagaland handicrafts get priority NHHDC support. Women weavers and youth artisans receive enhanced assistance. NHHDC emporiums in Kohima and Dimapur market products nationally.
