What is J&K SEHAT Health Insurance Scheme?
J&K SEHAT (Social, Economic and Educational Transformation through Health) is Jammu & Kashmir's universal health insurance scheme launched in December 2020 by PM Narendra Modi. It extends Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY coverage to ALL J&K residents — not just BPL families — providing cashless treatment up to ₹5 lakh per family per year at empanelled hospitals. J&K is the first and only state/UT in India to universalise PM-JAY. Over 30 lakh families (entire J&K population) are covered. The scheme works at all AB-PMJAY empanelled hospitals across India. Golden Card (SEHAT card) is issued to every J&K domicile holder.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive ₹5 lakh per family per year free cashless treatment — ALL J&K domicile families (no income limit) — 24,000+ empanelled hospitals across India. The scheme was launched in 2020 and is implemented by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
