What is J&K Ghar Wapsi Housing Scheme?
The J&K Ghar Wapsi Housing Scheme provides housing assistance to Kashmiri migrant families returning to J&K and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) families in Jammu & Kashmir by combining PM Awas Yojana (Gramin/Urban) central assistance with J&K state government's supplemental housing grant. Kashmiri Pandit migrants and other displaced families are given priority. Under PMAY-G, beneficiaries get up to ₹1.3 lakh (plains) or ₹1.5 lakh (hilly/difficult areas) with additional state top-up for J&K residents.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive PMAY-G: up to ₹1.3–1.5 lakh housing grant (+ state top-up for J&K). Kashmiri migrant families and EWS get priority. Pucca house construction/repair support.. The scheme was launched in 2016 and is implemented by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

Who is Eligible for J&K Ghar Wapsi Housing Scheme?
- ✓ Kashmiri migrant families returning to J&K (Kashmiri Pandits and other displaced communities)
- ✓ EWS (Economically Weaker Section) families with annual income below ₹3 lakh
- ✓ LIG (Low Income Group) families with annual income ₹3–6 lakh (for urban component)
- ✓ Must not already own a pucca house anywhere in India
- ✓ Family must not have previously received housing assistance under PMAY or other government housing scheme
- ✓ J&K domicile certificate mandatory (new domicile rules post-2019 reorganisation apply)
