What is Manipur Handloom Weaver Development?
The Manipur Handloom & Textiles Department provides comprehensive support to traditional Moirangphee and Phanek handloom weavers. The scheme provides free improved loom (frame loom or fly-shuttle loom), 50% subsidy on yarn and raw materials, and a ₹500/month stipend during training for new weavers. Master weavers receive skill upgradation training and GI tag support. Handloom clusters in Imphal valley and hill districts are linked to state emporiums (Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Emporium) and national craft bazaars for marketing. Financial assistance under the NHDC (National Handloom Development Corporation) yarn supply scheme is channelled through Manipur Apex Weaver Cooperative.
