What is Sona Sobran Dhoti-Saree JH?
Sona Sobran Dhoti-Saree Yojana is Jharkhand's unique free clothing scheme for BPL families. Free traditional dhoti is given to male members and saree to female members twice a year — during Dussehra and Republic Day — through block-level distribution camps. No application required. BPL ration card holders are automatically included. Over 30 lakh BPL families in Jharkhand benefit annually. The scheme dignifies the poorest families by providing basic clothing, especially in tribal and rural areas.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Free dhoti (men) + free saree (women) for all BPL family members — 2 times/year. The scheme was launched in 2015 and is implemented by the Government of Jharkhand.
