What is A&N Women SHG Empowerment Scheme?
Across the inhabited islands of the Andaman & Nicobar archipelago, the Women & Child Development Department runs an SHG Empowerment Scheme giving women's collectives working capital to start earning independently. Once a women's Self-Help Group registers, it gets a one-time seed revolving fund of ₹10,000, and can then draw interest-free loans of up to ₹1 lakh for group enterprises. Who is Eligible for A&N Women SHG Empowerment Scheme?
- ✓ The applicant must be a Self-Help Group made up entirely of women that has been formally registered in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- ✓ The group needs at least six months of active existence behind it, with a savings record showing regular, consistent contributions rather than a one-off deposit.
- ✓ Every member of the SHG has to be a woman who permanently resides in the A&N Islands — the benefit is not open to groups based elsewhere.
- ✓ The SHG must operate a joint bank account linked to its registered cooperative or bank, since funds are released into this group account rather than to individuals.
- ✓ Any earlier loan taken by the group needs to be fully cleared, with no history of default, before a fresh revolving fund or loan can be sanctioned.
