What is SAGY Adarsh Gram?
Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) is a rural development programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 October 2014 (Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan's birth anniversary) — under which every Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha) adopts one Gram Panchayat and develops it into an Adarsh Gram (Model Village). Each MP must develop one village by 2019, two more by 2024, and another five villages by 2024-29 (one per year). Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's vision of an ideal Indian village, SAGY focuses on holistic development covering personal development, social development, human development, economic development, environmental development, basic amenities, social security, and good governance. The Village Development Plan (VDP) is drafted by a working group based on people's needs prioritised in Gram Sabha. Implementation is through convergence of all Central and State government schemes (MGNREGA, PMAY, PMGSY, Jal Jeevan Mission, etc.) and Public-Voluntary-Cooperative (PVC) partnerships. Approved at Gram Sabha + District Level Committee under District Collector.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Holistic village development through convergence of 30+ central & state schemes + MP local fund priority. The scheme was launched in 2014 and is implemented by the Government of India.
