What is National Green Hydrogen Mission?

National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) was approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2023 with a budget of ₹19,744 crore (2023-2030) to position India as a global hub for production, export, and domestic use of green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is produced by electrolyzing water using renewable energy (solar/wind), making it a zero-emission fuel. NGHM's target: 5 million metric tonnes (MMT) per annum green hydrogen production by 2030, reducing India's fossil fuel dependence by ₹1 lakh crore/year and creating 6 lakh green jobs.
