What is Lakshadweep Fishermen Cooperative Loan?

The Lakshadweep Fishermen Cooperative Loan Scheme provides low-interest loans of up to ₹2 lakh to registered fishermen through the Lakshadweep Fishermen's Cooperative Societies for the purchase of modern fishing equipment, outboard motors, safety kits, and repair of fishing boats. The interest rate is subsidised at 4% per annum as against market rates. The scheme is administered by the Fisheries Department of the Lakshadweep Administration and is linked to the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The goal is to modernise the fishing fleet of Lakshadweep and increase the income of island fishermen.
