CSIR-UGC NET is the joint test conducted by NTA on behalf of CSIR for awarding Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and determining eligibility for Lectureship in 5 Science subjects: Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences. JRF awardees get ₹37,000/month (Junior) for 2 years + ₹42,000/month (Senior) for 3 years for PhD research in CSIR-affiliated labs or recognised universities. Held twice yearly (typically December and June). Approximately 1.5-2 lakh candidates appear each cycle; top 5-6% get JRF.

What's the age limit for CSIR-UGC NET JRF?
JRF age limit: 28 years for general candidates (as of 1st of exam month). Relaxation: SC/ST 5 years (so 33 years), OBC 3 years (31 years), women 5 years (33 years), PhD students 5 years (33 years), PwD 10 years. For Lectureship eligibility (no fellowship), there's NO upper age limit.
